MANILA – Amid reports that two overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) were arrested for allegedly filming missile attacks, the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi on Monday assured that legal assistance is being accorded to them.

In a statement, the embassy said it immediately contacted UAE authorities to verify the circumstances and whereabouts of the two OFWs.

“Legal assistance is being extended to the arrested individuals through the Embassy’s retained legal counsel,” it added.

A request was submitted to the UAE authorities for a consular visit to the arrested nationals, subject to approval.

“The Embassy wishes to reassure the public that it remains fully committed to providing all necessary legal and consular support to the affected Filipino nationals,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, the embassy said it has been providing “updates and support” to the families of the two OFWs.

In view of the ongoing investigation and at the request of the families, the embassy said it is withholding specific information regarding the identities and other details of the cases. (PNA)
