“I believe that if people can get more laughter in their lives, they are a lot better off,” says Steve Wilson, MA, CSP, a psychologist and laugh therapist. “They might be healthier too.”

THROUGHOUT my years of working with beautiful people, I have noticed a few characteristics that they have in common that could help us all live a better life.  Often, they aren’t necessarily better looking, more successful or richer, but they do enjoy their life more. They seem to smile often, giggle and have a positive outlook.

Laughter is contagious and it makes you feel good. Happiness is something that we control, it’s something that we can actually turn on, and we can turn off. We have all, sat in a corner, put on our mad-face, crossed our arms and just refused to “let it go” when we don’t get what we want.

In that moment, we chose to be unhappy and to let the negative emotion engulf us. Next time, choose to maintain a positive and optimistic outlook. It’s a very valuable ability, allowing you to maintain a clear-head during times of hardship, loss, disappointment and confrontation.

Filipinos are some of the happiest people on earth. It’s no wonder that we also have one the world’s most beautiful cultures as well. But too often, in a new world, with new pressures, new expectations and a little home sickness too. After a 50-hour work-week and a few hours in traffic, it can be hard to find the time to laugh. The outcome is sadness, depression and despair.

Laughter, Beauty & Good Health

Anxiety, Anger and Sadness cannot be present when you’re laughing.

You can accomplish more, by staying focused, increasing energy and reducing stress –when you laugh.

You change your paradigm or shift your perspective instantly when you laugh.  Enabling you to see solutions or positive outcomes instead of despair.

Laughing ‘makes-light’ of any situation.  Humor itself keeps you from feeling overwhelmed and is a great way to relax.

When you laugh, your body releases ‘endorphins’, which is why you feel good and your sense of well-being is heightened.

Laughter protects you against heart attack by increasing your blood flow.

“A link between laughter and healthy function of blood vessels was first reported in 2005 by researchers at the University of Maryland Medical Center with the fact that laughter causes the dilatation of the inner lining of blood vessels, the endothelium, and increases blood flow.[10] Drs. Michael Miller (University of Maryland) and William Fry (Stanford), theorize that beta-endorphin like compounds released by the hypothalamus activate receptors on the endothelial surface to release nitric oxide, thereby resulting in dilation of vessels. Other cardio protective properties of nitric oxide include reduction of inflammation and decreased platelet aggregation.”  WIKIPEDIA

So remember, put a smile on that beautiful face of yours.
