MANILA – After winning four medals in the GAP Challenge 2025 on March 29-30 here, Italy-based Filipina gymnast Jhodelle Chavez gears up for her next big challenge to keep her winning ways in the Italy National Championships next month.

“Masayang-masaya kami kasi importante itong GAP Challenge kay Jody (We are very happy because this GAP [Gymnastics Association of the Philippines] Challenge is very important for Jody,” Jhodelle’s mother, Jonalyn, said in a phone interview.

The 12-year-old Jhodelle competed under the High Performance 4 category of the GAP Challenge, winning one gold medal in beam exercise, two silvers in uneven bars exercise and overall/individual all-around, and bronze in floor exercise.

“Uuwi na kami next week. Bale 10 days lang kami. Talagang sinadya lang namin ang competition, meron sya mga international competition this year. Pag-aaralan pa namin kung san pwede dahil nag-aaral. Ang susunod sa Italy sa April and isa National Championships sa Riccione, Italy sa May (We will return next week [in Italy]. We’re only 10 days here. We came here just for this competition. She has international competitons this year. We have yet to determine which one she will join because of her school),” Jonalyn said.

She said her daughter has two upcoming tournaments in Italy, including the national championships in Riccione, where Jhodelle won titles for the last three consecutive years. (Alona Cochon/PNA)
