ROME – Philippine Ambassador to Italy Nathaniel Imperial wished Filipino participants good luck in the 2026 Run Rome The Marathon slated March 22.
During a Thanksgiving Mass for Filipino runners on Sunday, Imperial emphasized the importance of sports in fostering unity, resilience and national pride.
“Kung mapapansin ninyo sa (If you will notice on) Philippine Embassy in Rome page, we acknowledge our athletes like pole vaulter EJ Obiena and the SEA (Southeast Asian) Games athletes na nagbibigay karangalan sa ating lahat (who give honor for all of us),” he added.
Imperial’s presence reaffirmed the embassy’s unwavering commitment to supporting the Filipino community in Italy, particularly in endeavors that promote wellness, excellence and cultural visibility.
“We wish all the Filipino runners the best. Hope you will enjoy your 42km race and finish strong,” he said.
The Mass, officiated by Rev. Fr. Gilbert Quiqui of the Pedro Calungsod Filipino Community, was also attended by the athletes’ families and supporters.
A record-breaking 36,000 runners from over 120 countries are expected to participate in the Rome Marathon.
