ZAMBOANGA CITY – An estimated PHP7 million worth of grocery goods were destroyed in a fire that razed a warehouse in Barangay Sta. Catalina here on Thursday night, an official said.
In a report on Friday, Supt. Leo Pioquinto, Zamboanga City Fire District (ZCFD) marshal, said the fire broke out around 5:34 p.m. in Maria Camins compound, Barangay Sta. Catalina.
“Nine fire trucks responded to the fire call,” Pioquinto said in his report, adding that a certain Edgar Madrazo owns the warehouse with two lessors.
He noted that water tankers from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and Zamboanga City Water District supported the responding firefighters.
Pioquinto said the fire, which reached second alarm, was completely extinguished around 6:23 p.m.
He said they have yet to ascertain the cause of the fire.
The incident was the fifth to occur this week in the city, resulting in a total of PHP20.3 million worth of property damage.
On Thursday, some PHP9 million worth of properties were destroyed in a three-hour fire along Estrada Street, Barangay Tetuan.
On Tuesday, PHP3.5 million worth of properties were also destroyed when a fire hit the College of Liberal Arts building of Western Mindanao State University in Barangay Baliwasan.
On Monday, two fire incidents also gutted separate houses in the villages of Tetuan and Tumaga, with property damage pegged at PHP600,000 and PHP275,000, respectively. (PNA)
