MANILA – Authorities nabbed a male Romanian national for bringing 50 pieces of ammunition at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2, the Office for Transportation Security (OTS) bared on Friday.

OTS spokesperson Kim Marquez said the incident happened last May 27, when two of their personnel discovered the ammunition.

“Those were discovered by x-ray operator Marile Banola and baggage inspector Melfie Baya,” she told the Philippine News Agency.

The passenger bound for Bohol-Panglao International Airport was immediately turned over to the PNP Aviation Security Group (AVSEGROUP) for their disposition, Marquez said.

According to the AVSEGROUP press release, the passenger was subsequently arrested and taken into custody for filing of appropriate charges.

The passenger apparently forgot to remove the ammunition from his bag, it added.

“Even a single piece of ammunition can cause inconvenience when passing through our airports. Regardless of the gun ban, it remains illegal to carry such items without proper documentation,” AVSEGROUP Director, Brig Gen. Christopher Abecia said in a statement. (PNA)
