MANILA – Filipino cyclist Mark John Lexer Galedo secured a silver medal in the Masters 40-44 age category of individual time trial (ITT) at the Asian Cycling Confederation Road Championships in Phitsanulok, Thailand on Saturday.
Galedo completed the 21-kilometer course in 28 minutes and 25.2 seconds, finishing 35 seconds behind Thailand’s Tawatchai Jeeradechatam.
Jeeradechatam topped the ITT event at the 2013 Southeast Asian Games in Myanmar.
Another Thai cyclist, Kritsana Keawjun, settled for bronze.
The 39-year-old Galedo, a former elite rider who retired in December last year, competed in the 40-44 age category based on his birth year.
“I’m so happy for this victory and so inspired to see our flag being raised here,” Galedo, one of the coaches of the 21-member cycling team competing in the tournament, said.
Galedo, who also won his fifth Tour of Guam crown before retiring, would also join the road race on Thursday. (PNA)
