MANILA – International Master Chito Danilo Garma topped the 5th AQ Prime Standard Open chess tournament after beating Lennon Hart Salgados at the Robinsons Metro East in Pasig City Sunday night.
Garma, playing the black pieces, prevailed after 53 moves of the Budapest defense to finish with six points. He received PHP10,000 in cash and a trophy.
The former University of Manila standout’s other victories were over Kara Meneses, Andrew San Antonio, Michael Gastala, Phil Martin Casiguran, and Alexis Emil Maribao.
“I’m so happy right now. My family and my friends who supported me this weekend were such a huge impact. They helped me win. I love them all. And I love AQ Prime for making this event,” said the 60-year-old Garma, who already has two Grandmaster norms.
