BUTUAN CITY – Police arrested a man for violating the election gun ban and possessing illegal drugs in Barobo, Surigao del Sur on Wednesday evening.
Col. Harry Domingo, director of the Surigao del Sur Police Provincial Office, identified the suspect as “Aga,” 31, of Purok 6, Barangay Poblacion.
“The local police station received a report of a firearm discharge incident in Purok 6 at around 10:50 p.m. Responding officers arrested the suspect and seized a Colt .45-caliber pistol, two magazines, three spent cartridges, a black pouch, a digital weighing scale, a ‘tooter,’ and a heat-sealed sachet containing suspected shabu,” Domingo said in a report Thursday.
The operation is part of the police’s intensified campaign to maintain peace and order during the election period, Domingo said.
The suspect is facing charges for violating Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, in relation to Commission on Elections Resolution No. 10728 on the gun ban. He is also charged with violating Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (PNA)
