CALAMBA CITY, Laguna – A joint operation by various law enforcement groups on Monday led to the arrest of an alleged gun runner and the seizure of a cache of firearms and ammunition in Barangay Molino 2, Bacoor City, Cavite.
Brig. Gen. Kenneth Lucas, director of Police Regional Office (PRO) 4A (Calabarzon), confirmed the operation in a statement on Tuesday.
The suspect, identified as “Jay,” 52, a resident of Barangay Molino 2, Bacoor City, was arrested during the buy-bust operation, which led to the discovery of a wide array of firearms and live ammunition, including four KG9 long firearms; two AR15 long firearms; one caliber .45 pistol; one caliber .22 pistol; six 9mm double-stack magazines; one lower frame of a caliber .45 pistol; three caliber .45 magazines; a box of caliber .45 live ammunition; and a zip-lock plastic bag containing 9mm live ammunition.
The suspect is currently in the custody of the Bacoor City Police Station and will face charges under Republic Act 10591, the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, and the Omnibus Election Code’s provisions regarding the gun ban.
Lucas commended the team, which consisted of personnel of the Regional Intelligence Division 4A Special Team, the Technical Support Company, Regional Mobile Force Battalion 4A, and the Bacoor City Police Station.
“PRO 4A remains committed to removing illegal firearms and ammunition from our streets,” he said. “Our operations will continue in full force to prevent these weapons from being used in unlawful activities, particularly with the upcoming elections and the ongoing implementation of the Comelec (Commission on Elections) gun ban,” he said.
