MANILA – The Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday reported 28 new cases of road traffic injuries, bringing the overall tally to 496 as of 6 a.m.

The total from Dec. 22 to 31 is 33 percent higher than the road traffic injuries recorded during the same period in 2023.

Four of the six who died were involved in motorcycle accidents.

A total of 427 involved motorists not wearing safety accessories such as helmets and seatbelts — 356 motorcycle accidents and 83 consumed alcohol before hitting the road.

The DOH reminded motorists not to drink and drive and to sleep for at least seven hours before traveling to ensure concentration and quick reflexes.

It also urged motorists to use helmets and seatbelts, and to be mindful of speed limits and road signs. (PNA)
