MANILA (Mabuhay) — House Speaker Sonny Belmonte and Majority Leader Neptali Gonzales II have formally asked the executive to justify its request for additional powers for the president to address a looming power crisis in Luzon next year.

The House leaders filed a resolution calling for a congressional investigation, in aid of legislation, on the need to establish additional generating capacity.

The resolution cited President Benigno Aquino III’s letter last week asking for additional powers.

The resolution will enable the energy committee to conduct hearings during the three-week congressional break so they can draft the joint resolution for filing when Congress resumes session.

Meanwhile, energy committee chairman Representative Reynaldo Umali said he will call out for a forum on the Interruptible Load Program (ILP) to convince companies to participate.

“Sa ganitong senaryo na maaaring kaharapin ng Pilipinas, nananawagan ako sa lahat ng mga kumpanya at malalaking industriya na makisangkot at makiisa sa Interruptible Load Program (ILP) upang masapatan ang kinakailangang kuryente,” he said.(MNS)
