MANILA – The number of houses damaged by the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that rocked Bogo City, Cebu, and nearby provinces on Sept. 30 has climbed to 62,531, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Wednesday.

In its latest situational report, the disaster response agency said the number of “partially damaged” houses was placed at 57,677, while the remaining 4,854 were classified as “totally damaged.”

All the damaged houses are located in Region 7 (Central Visayas).

Meanwhile, the number of affected families was placed at 179,252, equivalent to 669,794 persons, residing in 245 barangays in Region 7. The number of deaths being validated was still at 72, along with 559 injured persons.

The NDRRMC has yet to provide estimates on the agriculture and infrastructure segments damaged by the earthquake.

Humanitarian assistance, both food and non-food items, provided so far has totalled PHP146,058,763.65, according to the NDRRMC.

A total of 225,864 families have also received family food packs from the Department of Social Welfare and Development. (PNA)
