DATU MONTAWAL, Maguindanao del Sur – Police are hunting two persons of interest in the daylight ambush that killed a retired police major and his companion along the national highway here Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

Capt. Nurjhasier Sali, Datu Montawal police chief, said Wednesday that two men riding a motorbike overtook the victims’ black Mitsubishi pickup at about 3 p.m. and opened fire.

Killed were retired Police Maj. Elias Dandan, former police chief of Pikit, North Cotabato, and Raymund Bioy, both residents of Barangay Kalawag, Pikit.

Responding police found the two men lifeless inside the vehicle with gunshot wounds. They were rushed to the USM Hospital in Kabacan, Cotabato, but were declared dead on arrival.

“Motive and identities of the attackers are yet to be determined as investigation is continuing,” Sali said.

Police, backed by soldiers, are pursuing several leads to identify and arrest the suspects. (PNA)
