MANILA – The Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) on Friday said it will ask the National Bureau of Investigation to look into false information that it had deputized an organization to assist in its investigations.

In a statement, the ICI noted that a misleading article is being circulated online, falsely claiming that it has sought the assistance of a group called Task Force Kasanag International in the investigation of anomalous flood control projects.

“The Commission categorically denies this claim. The ICI has not authorized, deputized or engaged Task Force Kasanag International, or any group led by Mr. John Chong, in any capacity related to its investigation. This report is entirely untrue and should not be given credence,” it said.

“In view of the malicious disinformation, the ICI immediately requests the NBI to look into the matter and to file the appropriate criminal charges against those responsible for spreading false and misleading information that undermines the commission’s work,” the ICI added.

It also urged the public to rely only on official ICI statements and verified news reports.

The ICI is chaired by retired Supreme Court associate justice Andres Reyes Jr., with former Public Works and Highways Secretary Rogelio Singson and SGV & Co. executive Rossana Fajardo as members. (PNA)
