MANILA – The Independent Commission on Infrastructure (ICI) is committed to finding the truth and will “not allow any whitewashing” in its ongoing probe, Executive Director Brian Keith Hosaka said Tuesday.
“That’s why it is very crucial that the commission carefully untangles this web of corruption. This is not a simple modus,” he said in a message to reporters.
Hosaka added that the ICI is verifying all evidence and testimonies it receives, cautioning that some information “might be false, and possibly given to mislead the investigation and even the public for whatever agenda by some people.”
He also said the ICI may expand its investigation into alleged infrastructure corruption to include the heads of the Land Transportation Office and the Bureau of Customs in connection with the alleged smuggled luxury cars of the Discaya couple.
Meanwhile, Hosaka denied claims that one of its members is planning to resign, insisting on the commission’s stability.
“Hindi totoo na meron miyembro ng ICI na gustong mag resign. Buo po ang ICI at patuloy silang nag-iimbistiga ayon sa kanilang mandato (It is not true that an ICI member wants to resign. The ICI is solid and will continue its investigations, based on its mandate),” he said.
Caloocan City 2nd District Rep. Edgar Erice on Monday claimed to have spoken to a “discouraged” ICI member who was considering stepping down over the commission’s “lack of investigative authority needed to effectively probe the country’s massive infrastructure scandals.” (PNA)
