MANILA (Mabuhay) – Moro Islamic Liberation Front chief negotiator Mohagher Iqbal on Wednesday said the reported burning of the house of suspected terrorist Zulkifli bin Hir alias Marwan may be out of the residents’ anger over the Mamasapano clash.

Iqbal said residents in the area have disclosed that they were angered by the clash since they also did not know that it was Marwan living in that hut.

Sa investigation po namin [about the Jan. 25 clash], tinatanong namin ‘yung mga civilian, hindi nila alam na si Marwan ang nandoroon. Ang alam nila, ang pangalan, Madz, kaya siguro nu’ng madiskubre nila, sinunog siguro nila,” he said.

However, Iqbal clarified that the MILF will still look into the reported torching incident.

Earlier in the day, authorities said they will conduct an investigation and documentation in the Mamasapano area following reports that Marwan’s hut was torched by armed men on Tuesday night.

According to Senior Inspector Regie Albellera, his office received text messages and calls from village officials in Tukanalipao, saying bright flames were visible at around 9 p.m. at the hut where Marwan was believed to be neutralized by PNP-Special Action Force commandos on Jan. 25.

Reports added that two more huts were also burned by armed elements several meters away.

Mamasapano police, however, could not say yet if the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters or the 105th Base Command of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front were involved since the place is known to be their enclave. (MNS)
