MANILA (Mabuhay) — Many female celebrities reward themselves with a collection of signature bags or shoes but not Jennylyn Mercado. Apparently, the actress is into luxury watches.
“Everytime matatapos ‘yung soap ko na talagang pagod na pagod ako, drained na drained ako, mag-shopping (ako ng) watch,” she said.
To date, she has at least 16 pricey timepieces, some of which cost more than a million pesos. She keeps the collection in a safety deposit box.
“Isa pa lang yata (maliban sa kin) ang nakakakita ng (buong) collection ko,” she shares.
Jennylyn started her collection some six years ago but her fondness for watches was already evident even as a student.
There is a reason for her “timely” collection. “Kasi lagi akong on time. Never akong na-late sa buhay ko, lagi akong 30 minutes or an hour early (sa meetings),” she says, adding, “Normally, umaalis ako (ng bahay) two hours before (a meeting) kung isang oras ang expected na byahe.”
Jennylyn’s parents taught her the value of time that’s why “nagagalit ako ‘pag may nale-late sa kung sino man ang kasama ko.”
Jennylyn’s discipline when it comes to time extends to her exercise routine. “Morning person ako. Halimbawa natapos ako ng 3 a.m. (sa shooting), nagigising ako on time, around 5 a.m. (kung minsan), para mag-training. Lately, inadjust ko na, ginagawa ko ng 7 or 8 a.m. lalo ’pag sobrang puyat,” she shares.
She swims regularly for 2.5 to 4 km, as training for triathlon, which she has been doing for four years now. “Iba ’yung fulfillment. Gusto kong i-prove sa tao na mommy na ako pero kaya kong gawin ‘yan kahit hindi siya madali,’” she says.
These days, Jennylyn is busy taping for her upcoming GMA-7 series “Second Chances” where she plays Lyra, a veterinarian. She works for the first time with Camille Prats.
“Sa ‘Princess Sarah’ and ‘Ang TV’ palang pinapanood ko na siya. I’m sure soon (mas may matututunan ako sa kanya). So far, konti palang ’yung nakukunan naming scenes together,” Jennyln says.
“Second Chances” will air on GMA-7 in November. (MNS)
