MANILA (Mabuhay) – Fernando “Jerry” Barican, who served as spokesman of then President Joseph Estrada, died Friday night, friends and relatives said.

A niece said Barican passed away at the Makati Medical Center 9:20 p.m. Friday from multiple organ failure.

His body lies in state at the St. Alphonsus Liguori church in Magallanes Village, Makati City. Cremation will follow the 1 p.m. mass.

A special necrological service will be held by the University of the Philippines on October 6, Monday, at 7 p.m.

Barican was a noted youth leader and activist during the First Quarter Storm.

He was a graduate and faculty member of the UP College of Law and earned a Masters in Law from Harvard University.(MNS)
