MANILA, Sept 23 (Mabuhay) – The bail hearing of Sen. Jinggoy Estrada over plunder and graft charges in connection with the alleged pork barrel scam was canceled Tuesday after whistleblower Benhur Luy complained of nausea and dizziness.

Justice Roland Jurado of the Sandiganbayan Fifth Division stopped the proceedings even before Luy could take the witness stand.

He then ordered that Luy undergo a medical examination.

Nurse Ryan Buenviaje took Luy’s blood pressure in the courtroom and reported that the principal whistleblower in the supposed scam reached 150/110, prompting Jurado to cancel the hearing.

Luy was given medicine to lower his blood pressure.

Luy is the principal whistleblower in the alleged multi-billion peso pork barrel scam where lawmakers supposedly diverted their Priority Development Assistance Fund allocations to bogus non-government organizations associated with businesswoman Janet Lim-Napoles.

Estrada is currently detained at the PNP Custodial Center in Camp Crame. He is facing one count of plunder and 11 counts of graft.

He is also serving a 90-day suspension as ordered by the Sandiganbayan.

Estrada’s colleagues and co-accused – Minority Leader Juan Ponce Enrile and Ramon Bong Revilla Jr. – are also detained in Camp Crame. Revilla is with Estrada at the Custodial Center while Enrile, at the PNP General Hospital. (MNS)
