MANILA (Mabuhay) — Kiko Estrada feels quite at home with GMA-7, acknowledging that he feels “safe” with the network.
The 22-year old actor shared, “I started here and I’m planning to stay here for a long time. I’m simply praying for more blessings to come.”
Kiko who appeared in GMA-7′s youth-oriented show “Tween Hearts,” transferred to ABS-CBN after the show ended its run in 2012.
“The opportunity wasn’t there and I didn’t have any option,” he recalled.
As a Kapamilya, Kiko was cast in “Angelito: Ang Bagong Yugto,” and “Annaliza,” as with a number of “Maalala Mo Kaya” episodes. He was reported to have been cast in the now defunct “Mirabella,” but it didn’t push through.
“I was saddened and I was hurt,” he recalled. “I made it through the auditions. I already did research. I would be lying if I wasn’t hurt. That was a big show.”
Kiko eventually deemed it a blessing in disguise, inasmuch as it led to his return to GMA-7, quickly landing a lead role in the network’s newest prime-time series “Strawberry Lane,” which started airing last Sept. 15.
He is thankful that GMA-7 took him back again, aiming to prove himself as an actor.
“I’m planning to make the most out of it,” he maintained.
In “Strawberry Lane,” Kiko plays Paulino, the boyfriend of Lavinia played by Rita de Guzman. The relationship will be jeopardized when Paulino meets Jack (Kim Rodriguez) a girl accused of arson by the owner of the factory she is working in.
“I’m happy being a part of ‘Strawberry Lane’ but I’m also pressured. I’m also excited being paired with Kim Rodriguez who’s a very close friend,” said Kiko.
“Strawberry Lane” also stars Bea Binene, Joyce Ching, Joanna Marie Tan, Jeric Gonzales and Jake Vargas. (MNS)
