MANILA – Senate Minority Leader Aquilino Pimentel III on Monday warned that repeated mentions of death and killing can be a symptom of a serious personality disorder.

Pimentel made the statement after former president Rodrigo R. Duterte, during the PDP-Laban proclamation rally in the City of San Juan on Feb. 13, mentioned about killing 15 senators to ensure the party’s senatorial slate wins in the upcoming elections.

“A person’s obsession with the topic of death and killing, mentioning it every time he or she speaks, is a worrying sign of a serious personality disorder,” Pimentel said in a Viber message to reporters.

Pimentel urged the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to determine whether the remarks warrant legal action.

“Let DOJ and NBI do their work. They should know if, given the facts, a crime has been committed or not. If there is no crime whatsoever, then let us drop the issue,” he said.

DOJ Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla told the media on Monday said that it’s up to the NBI if it will look into the alleged threats.

“Motu propio (By itself), the NBI can look into that. We’ll see. Alam n’yo naman, we’re used to the language of the former president. Sanay tayo (We’ll see. We’re used to the language of the president),” Remulla said. (PNA)
