The Los Angeles County Dragon Boat Club (LADBC) Committee is planning this year’s event once again for October 2, 2021.

This year marks the 9h Anniversary of this festival and with the county’s help and guidance, the race will follow proper safety protocols to ensure all participants and visitors have a successful day of racing.

The event returns to the south side of Santa Fe Dam in Irwindale allowing the gorgeous mountains as its back drop.

“Our event is one of the favorite of the season and we’re excited that so many teams from all over California and Arizona have registered,” said Nathan Salazar, volunteer president of the Festival and head coach for LADBC. “We are a volunteer run, non-profit organization that would not exist without our valuable partners, like the county of Los Angeles and Supervisor Hilda Solis. The Festival is a great way for people to forget the pressures of work and come together as a team in a fun, relaxing and competitive setting.”

Teams participating range from elite top USA athletes to corporate teams who have never touched a paddle before.

The USA Juniors will be racing in multiple events and are students from LA County, ages 9-18. LAPD will also continue their paddle for gold with their team “The Paddling Pigs.” Each team races at least 3 times with various heats updated throughout the day.

The Festival will feature the Awakening of the Dragons Opening Ceremony at 10:00AM followed by the 200-meter sprint races that can all be viewed easily from the shoreline.

Additionally, there will be various stage performances by local groups and performers showcasing various cultures in Los Angeles. There’s truly something for everyone, so don’t miss out.

The event is free to the public and all are encouraged to come to Dam and Recreation Center between 7am and 4pm. Parking fee to be determined.
