MANILA – Top seed Alberto Lim Jr. defeated No. 2 Eric Olivarez Jr., 6-3, 6-1, 6-1, to capture his second straight title in the 41st Philippine Columbian Association (PCA) Open Tennis Championships men’s singles title at the Plaza Dilao indoor shell court in Paco, Manila on Sunday.
Lim also bagged the mixed doubles title with Angeline Alcala, pulling off a 6-2, 6-3 win over top seeds Rolly Saga and Joanna Tan on Saturday.
Lim earned P200,000, while he and Alcala will share the P35,000 cash prize for their doubles success.
In the women’s singles final, top-seeded Marian Capadocia extended her dominance with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Khim Iglupas to claim her 10th consecutive title.
Capadocia took home P100,000 for the victory, while Iglupas earned P50,000 for her runner-up finish.
The action also heated up in the intercollegiate division, where National University secured the men’s title with a 2-1 win over University of the Philippines.
In the women’s division, University of Santo Tomas beat NU, 2-1, to claim the crown.
Meanwhile, in the inter-high school division, De La Salle-Lipa triumphed 2-1 over San Sebastian College in the boys’ category, while De La Salle-Zobel defeated San Beda University 2-1 in the girls’ competition.
In team tennis, Cebuana Lhuillier defeated PCA-Gimaca 3-2 to capture the men’s title, while Fusion came out on top with a 3-2 victory over Boyet Angels in the women’s final. (PNA)
