MANILA, Aug 10 (Mabuhay) – Actress Lovi Poe, the daughter of the late film icon Fernando Poe, Jr., expressed her happiness over the confirmation of the declaration of her late father as a National Artist.

Last month, President Aquino issued Proclamation Number 435, confirming the posthumous declaration of former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo that the veteran action star be named as National Artist for 2006.

The actress, however, said she will not be among those who will belatedly accept the honor at Malacanang.

FPJ ‘s widow veteran actress Susan Roces and their daughter Grace Poe-Llamanzares had earlier expressed willingness to accept the National Artist Award for Poe after initially rejecting the citation six years ago.

“I don’t think so,” Lovi said, when asked if she will be attending the conferment ceremony.

“Pero I’m just happy naman. I’m really proud of my dad. I’m so proud. For me, it wasn’t necessary, as long as he lived in everyone’s hearts. But I’m thankful for him to be given that. It’s just amazing,” said Lovi, who topbills the upcoming horror film “Guni-Guni” by Regal Films.

With Foe’s birthday approaching, Lovi said she wishes for her father’s guidance as her film’s opening draws near.

“[Birthday niya sa] August 20. I’m happy na birthday niya ulit, pero malungkot din. Pero sana tulong na lang niya sa ‘kin, gift na lang niya sa ‘kin na maging maayos ‘yung pelikula,” Lovi said.

Directed by Tara Illenberger, “Guni-Guni” also stars Empress Schuck, James Blanco and Gina Alajar. It opens in theaters nationwide on August 22. (MNS)
