MANILA – The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Wednesday summoned 10 more bus and other public utility vehicle (PUV) terminal operators in Pangasinan and La Union over safety and comfort violations.
In a statement, LTFRB Chair Vigor Mendoza II said show-cause orders (SCOs) were issued to these operators and their managers based on a surprise inspection led by LTFRB regional office Director Cristal Sibayan.
“Ito ay isang patunay na hindi ningas-kugon ang ating operasyon (This proves that our operation isn’t only strong at the beginning). We will continue to conduct operations until all of the terminal operators comply with the basic rights of commuters for a safe and comfortable commuting experience,” Mendoza said.
The violations of these 10 terminal operators include a lack of roofing, functional comfort rooms, CCTVs, and security personnel.
Some were also found lacking in facilities that protect passengers from incoming and outgoing vehicles, as well as accessibility facilities for senior citizens and the disabled.
The SCOs were issued to four bus and PUV terminals each in Alaminos and Dagupan City in Pangasinan, as well as two terminal operators in San Fernando City, La Union.
Those summoned were asked to explain in writing why their terminals must not be shut down, and a hearing will be scheduled to investigate their violations.
Mendoza lamented that the same violations were common across the country based on reports from various regions.
“We will put an end to this. What is normal is for these terminal operators to be mindful of the comfort and security of the passengers. They must comply or face closure of operations,” he said.
To date, more than 120 bus and PUV operators have been issued with SCOs and notices of violations as part of the LTFRB’s crackdown on dilapidated terminals. (PNA)
