MANILA – The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has filed criminal and administrative cases against a motorcycle rider who hit a traffic enforcer while trying to escape an apprehension at a portion of Marcos Highway in Barangay Inarawan, Antipolo City on Saturday.

In a statement on Wednesday, LTO chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II said the suspect, Roger Ymas, was charged with violation of Republic Act (RA) No. 4136 (Land Transportation and Traffic Code) for resistance and disobedience to a person in authority, and Section 11 of RA 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002) after he yielded plastic sachets that have been confirmed to be shabu.

Maliwanag na pambabastos ang ginawa ng rider na ito kaya talagang tututukan ko ang kasong ito para matiyak na maturuan siya ng leksyon (What this rider did was blatantly disrespectful, that’s why I’m personally going to ensure that he learns his lesson),” Mendoza said.

In a report submitted by LTO-Calabarzon Regional Director Elmer Decena, the incident occurred in front of the St. Anthony Parish Church along Marcos Highway after the suspect was flagged down by enforcers for not wearing a helmet.

Instead of stopping, Ymas tried to flee by doing a quick U-turn but hit a traffic enforcer, causing him to crash.

The suspect is currently detained at the Antipolo Police Station. (PNA)
