BACOLOD CITY – The Land Transportation Office-Negros Island Region (LTO-NIR) on Monday flagged a motorcycle rider for assaulting an elderly man driving a car along the national highway in Murcia, Negros Occidental.
Based on the police report, Patric Demapanag, 30, of Barangay Patag, Silay City, overtook and blocked the way of the 67-year-old driver from Murcia on board a Toyota Wigo in the area of Barangay Salvacion, Sunday afternoon.
He then approached the elderly driver, identified as Luisito Tubongbanua, and repeatedly punched him on the face, the report added.
Tubongbanua is a former president of the Liga ng mga Barangay and once an elected councilor of Murcia.
“The LTO-NIR is set to issue a show cause order directing the motorcycle rider to explain why his driver’s license should not be suspended, revoked, or subjected to other administrative sanctions for his involvement in the road rage incident,” the agency said in a Facebook post on Monday.
In an interview, the motorcycle rider said Tubongbanua kept cutting him off, making him angry and leading him to assault the suspect.
At the Murcia Municipal Police Station, he was booked for serious physical injury and was subsequently charged by the police for the said offense. (PNA)
