MANILA – The Land Transportation Office (LTO) temporarily suspended the license of the truck driver who was involved in a recent road crash in Quezon province.

In a statement on Monday, LTO chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II said the temporary suspension was placed as part of a show cause order (SCO) issued to both the truck driver and operator.

The driver was asked to explain in writing why his license should not be permanently revoked for being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle, a violation under the Republic Act 4136 or the LTO Code.

On the other hand, the operator was asked to explain why no sanctions should be imposed for employing a reckless driver.

The LTO-Intelligence and Investigation Division summoned the truck driver to a hearing on May 16.

“The investigation is also aimed at checking if the truck operator is conducting regular maintenance of all its units,” Mendoza said.

According to the LTO’s initial investigation, the truck was headed to Plaridel town from Atimonan when it lost its brakes while traveling in the downhill portion of the road and overturned.

The hearing is part of the LTO’s aggressive operations against errant truck drivers and operators following the fatal Katipunan flyover (Quezon City) crash in December last year. (PNA)
