MANILA – The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has temporarily suspended the license of a bus driver involved in a multiple vehicle collision near EDSA Quezon Avenue on Wednesday.

In a statement on Thursday, Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon said the suspension is in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to ensure the safety and comfort of commuters and other road users.

Kung kinakailangan na i-suspinde lahat ng license ng mga driver at prangkisa ng mga operators na pabaya sa daan at the expense of our commuters and road users, we will do it. We will keep on doing this until matuto at magtino lahat (If we need to suspend the licenses of all drivers and franchises of operators who are careless on the road at the expense of commuters and road users, we will do it. We will keep on doing this until they learn),” Dizon said.

He lauded the LTO’s immediate issuance of a show cause order (SCO) against the driver identified as Albeth Gemina and the bus operator Diamond V-Eight Transport Inc.

He warned other public utility vehicles (PUV) drivers and operators that endangering commuters and other road users will face heavy penalties.

At around 6 a.m. on Wednesday, a multiple collision occurred near EDSA Quezon Avenue involving a motorcycle, a UV Express, and a passenger bus.

According to the SCO issued by the LTO, the bus hit the rear portion of the UV Express, causing it to be pushed forward and collide with the motorcycle.

At least four persons were injured in the incident. (PNA)
