MANILA – The Lyceum of the Philippines University relied on John Barba and Mclaude Guadana to pull off a 90-86 overtime win over Arellano University in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Season 100 men’s basketball tournament at the Filoil EcoOil Arena on Friday.
Barba and Guadana combined for 11 points in the extra period as the Pirates improved to 2-2, in a tie with defending champion San Beda University, University of Perpetual Help, Emilio Aguinaldo College and San Sebastian College-Recoletos.
Barba finished with 25 points, eight rebounds and three assists, while Guadana had 12 points.
Gyle Montano contributed 17 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals, while Simon Penafiel added 11 points for Lyceum, which posted a 45-44 lead at halftime.
Maverick Vinuya led Arellano with 22 points, including four triples, on top of four rebounds as Arellano absorbed its fourth straight loss.
Troy Valencia contributed 18 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals; Jeadan Ongotan had 13 points and 11 rebounds while Will Miller and Ernest Geronimo chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively for the Chiefs, who led 63-57, in the end of third quarter.
College of Saint Benilde leads the standings with a 4-0 record, followed by Mapua University and Letran (2-1), which were still playing at press time. (PNA)
