MANILA – Wild card Tennielle Madis capped an outstanding week by ruling the Philippine Columbian Association (PCA) women’s singles Sunday, dominating top seed Kaye Anne Emana, 6-0, 6-3, at PCA indoor shell court in Paco, Manila.

The 18-year-old from M’lang, Cotabato capitalized on her experience playing on the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Juniors Circuit to overcome University of Santo Tomas’ Emana, last season’s UAAP Most Valuable Player.

She also won the doubles title with fellow Philippine Tennis Academy member Stefi Marithe Aludo over Elsie Abarquez and Rovie Baulate, 6-3, 6-3, on Saturday and was runner-up in the mixed doubles with Iggy Pantino.

“I always keep a positive attitude in every match I play. The goal is to win and I’m happy that I was able to do that today,” Madis said.

Madis, who skipped last year’s edition, lost to Marian Capadocia, 0-6, 1-6, in the finals two years ago.

In Sunday’s final, Madis took an early 2-0 lead in the second set before Emana managed to hold serve at 3-3.

However, Madis regained the lead and swept the next three games to seal the victory.

“It’s our first meeting and I have no idea about her game. I tried my best but she was able to return my ball,” the 20-year-old Emana said.

Madis and Aludo previously swept both legs of the J60 Phinma-ITF Championships at Manila Polo Club in Makati last July.

The duo also captured four J60 titles in 2024, winning in Manila, China, Thailand and Sri Lanka. (PNA)
