MANILA – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. cautioned the public on Sunday about the spread of fake news and disinformation as the campaign season heats up.

In his latest vlog, Marcos urged Filipinos to be extra vigilant when consuming information, particularly from social media.

“Intrigues and mudslinging come hand in hand with campaigns and fake news is everywhere. That’s why, our citizens must be careful,” he said in Filipino.

“As we said, the new Filipinos know how to distinguish between right and wrong information. So, now that fake news and disinformation are widespread, we should be extra careful about what we read online,” he added.

Marcos, who has been actively supporting his Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas coalition since Feb. 11, described the campaign trail as an opportunity to personally interact with people.

“One of the things I enjoy about the campaign rallies we go to is that I get to see those who support us,” Marcos said.

“They are real people, real Filipinos, they are not keyboard warriors, trolls — they are real people. We shook hands, talked and checking on them,” he added.

Real testimonies

The President also stressed that the testimonies of ordinary Filipinos about government projects and programs cannot be faked.

“Another thing that can’t be faked is the testimonies of our fellow Filipinos regarding government projects and programs,” Marcos said.

He stressed that those genuine experiences showcase the tangible improvements brought by government efforts and it was heartwarming to hear citizens express gratitude for the services rendered to them.

Marcos reminded the public that fake news exists year-round, but assured that it will not derail the government’s commitment to serving Filipinos.

“Whether it’s campaign season or not, fake news will always be there. But whether it’s campaign season or not, nothing will stop the government’s service to the people,” he said, vowing to further strengthen what his administration has started to improve the lives of Filipinos. (PNA)
