MANILA (Mabuhay) — With a little help from a new “wonder pill,” Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago on Wednesday expressed hopes she would recover from her lung cancer within the year.

“With the new wonder pill, I hope to attain full recovery by the end of this year,” the feisty senator told reporters in a press conference.

Earlier reports said Santiago described the “wonder pill” as “chemotherapy (that) has been reduced to a tablet.”

Last July, Santiago revealed that she was diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer.

For the sake of those who may still have doubts if she has cancer, Santiago showed to reporters the bandages in her fingers and toes, saying people with lung cancer is prone to bleeding.

“You think I will report to office like this? You think these are necessary accessories for beauty? For sex appeal? When you got cancer, your immunities are taken away from you and you become vulnerable…,” she said.

“Some people doubt that I have cancer at all. You think it’s a pigment of my imagination? I wish,” she added. (MNS)
