MANILA – The Metro Rail Transit 3 (MRT-3) is offering free rides to female passengers during certain hours on Saturday in celebration of Women’s Day.

In a Facebook post on Friday, the MRT 3 said the free rides will be available to female passengers from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the said date.

MRT-3 General Manager Oscar Bongon said the free rides are meant to recognize and thank women for their role in society.

Ang libreng sakay po ay simpleng paraan ng MRT-3 upang maipakita ang suporta sa bawat Juana at mabigyang-pugay ang kanilang mga sakripisyo para sa kanilang mga pamilya. Nawa ay magdulot ito ng kahit kaunting kaginhawaan sa kanila sa kanilang espesyal na araw (These free rides are a simple way to show support to every Filipina and appreciate their sacrifices for their family. May these give them comfort during their special day),” Bongon said.

In addition, he said ‘Women’s Month tokens’ would be given away to female passengers on Friday.

With the theme, “Babae sa Lahat ng Sektor, Aangat ang Bukas sa Bagong Pilipinas (All women in every sector, there will be a better tomorrow in a new Philippines),” this year’s Women’s Month seeks to have “a nation where every woman — regardless of background or circumstance — thrive.”

The celebration is led by the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW), which is celebrating its 50th anniversary and the 45th year of the Philippines’ signing of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). (PNA)
