MANILA – The Philippine National Police (PNP) is conducting a “deep-dive validation” into the alleged involvement of 10 former police officials in criminal syndicates.
PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said Monday the probe is being led by the Intelligence Group and the Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group.
“We are not just looking at their current activities but also who their possible connections inside the organization,” Nartatez said in a statement.
Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla earlier said the former officers — once holding the ranks of major and captain — formed their own criminal groups after being dismissed from the PNP for grave offenses. He did not identify them.
“As soon as we learned of this report, I immediately directed our Intelligence Group and the Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group to conduct a deep-dive validation,” Nartatez said.
Nartatez also ordered a review of internal monitoring systems to curb post-dismissal corruption, and vowed to strengthen ethics training, anti-corruption workshops and early detection mechanisms, especially in sensitive units. (PNA)
