MANILA – The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Friday announced the arrest of a Chinese national illegally practicing medicine and four individuals selling high-powered firearms in separate operations in Pasay and Parañaque City.
In a news release, the agency said its NBI- National Capital Region (NCR) unit arrested Chinese national Yu Jianxin, alias “Zhang Lin,” in an entrapment operation in Pasay City for violating Republic Act (RA) 2382 (The Medical Act of 1959) in relation to RA 10175 (Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012) on Dec. 3.
Jianxin’s Tai An Clinic offered medical services exclusively to Chinese nationals for a fee, without the necessary license or permit to operate and is himself not a licensed physician/ nurse/ or medical technologist.
The Department of Health (DOH) certified that the clinic is not a licensed general clinical laboratory and has no pending application for a License to Operate (LTO).
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) also said no LTO was issued to Jianxin by any drug centers.
Recovered from the clinic were various Chinese medicines and medical equipment.
Meanwhile, the NBI arrested four individuals in Parañaque City for illegal sale of high-powered firearms on Nov. 28.
According to NBI Director Jaime Santiago, the NBI-NCR received a report about a certain group that is selling high-powered firearms in the region and nearby areas, in violation of RA 10591, otherwise known as the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
NBI-NCR operatives conducted an entrapment operation in Asiana Square, Parañaque City for procuring two M14 cal. 5.56 rifles by poseur-buyers in exchange for PHP290,000.
Arrested were Jerome Nuyque, Maximo Ayawon, Michael Lolong, and Nilo Barnacho.
The suspects yielded one Daniel Defense M4 Carbine cal. 5.56mm; one Bushmaster cal. 5.56mm model xm15-E2S; one Shooters cal. 45 pistol; one CZ pistol cal. 6.35mm; and various ammunition. (PNA)
