MANILA – The National Bureau of Investigation Intellectual Property Rights Division (NBI-IPRD) on Thursday reported that PHP55 million worth of counterfeit products have been seized in a series of operations conducted on May 6-7 in Parañaque, Malabon and Manila.

The seizures followed multiple search warrants served for violation of Section 155 (Trademark Infringement) and Section 168 (Unfair Competition) in relation to Section 170 of Republic Act 8293 or the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines.

The cases stemmed from complaints filed by lawyers and representatives of Oakley, Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent.

On May 6, a search warrant was implemented against AJS Online and/or Sarigayo Online Store in Parañaque, resulting in the seizure of 1,083 pieces of counterfeit products bearing the “Oakley” trademark with an estimated value of PHP3,556,500.

On May 7, search warrants were enforced against four stores in Binondo, Manila and a warehouse located in Malabon City, resulting in the confiscation of 1,024 pieces of fake “Gucci” and “Yves Saint Laurent” products with an estimated value of PHP51, 646,470.

NBI Director Jaime Santiago reminded the public to refrain from patronizing counterfeit products to give due protection to the rights of intellectual property owners and enhance the country’s economic growth. (PNA)
