MANILA – The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has dispatched vehicles to offer free rides to commuters affected by the three-day transport strike by the group Manibela starting Monday.
NCRPO spokesperson Maj. Hazel Asilo said in a news release Sunday that various local government units, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) also deployed assets to ferry affected commuters.
At the same time, Asilo said around 8,000 personnel, including nearly 2,500 from the Civil Disturbance and Management unit, will be deployed.
The MMDA confirmed it has prepositioned vehicles for libreng sakay (free ride) in coordination with LGUs.
The MMDA said it will monitor the strike through its command center, linked to closed-circuit television cameras across Metro Manila.
Deployment of free-ride vehicles will be done “as needed” to avoid disrupting the income of jeepney drivers not joining the strike. (PNA)
