NDRRMC: Number of people affected by Ruby nears 4-M

MANILA, Dec 17 (Mabuhay) – The number of people affected by Typhoon Ruby (Hagupit) moved closer to the four-million mark as of Wednesday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said.

In its 6 a.m. update, the NDRRMC said Ruby had affected 918,055 families or 3,914,930 people in Central and Southern Luzon,n Bicol, Western, Central and Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and Metro Manila.

Of these, 31,874 families or 165,243 people are being served in and out of 458 evacuation centers.

As of Tuesday, the NDRRMC noted 902,291 families or 3,852,672 people were affected. Of these, 31,528 families or 164,054 people were being served in and out of 459 evacuation centers.

The NDRRMC’s Wednesday figures also said the death toll remained at 18, with 916 injured.

Damage caused by Ruby was estimated at P3,349,359,620, including P1,435,804,523 in infrastructure and P1,913,555,097 in agriculture. (MNS)
