Musical icons, Master Balladeer Julius Obregon and Nonoy Zuñiga ” will try to settle the score that brewed for three decades on who among them owns the right to be called “the best” at “The Main Event 2 – Timeless is slated on October 23 at the Grand Ballroom of Hilton Glendale at 100 Glenoaks Boulevard, Glendale 91202 starting at 8:00 p.m.
Obregon and Zuñiga have mellowed over the years since their first encounter at the then Rizal Theater in Makati delighting their audience kind of music and were joined in the stellar confrontation by Nanette Inventor, who refereed the first fight and the known boxing commentator, the late Joe Cantada, The crowd was left hanging as the “bout” ended with no clear winner except the fans who loyally rooted for their favorites.
Throwback to July of this year, a rematch at the 800-seating capacity Grand Ballroom of the Knott’s Berry Farm Hotel, a venue in Buena Park thought to be large enough to accommodate both fans of the protagonists, after a grueling two and a half hours skirmish, the remained unsettled.
Their followers and fans “cried for more blood and settle the score once and for all”.
Still fuming and with adrenaline pumping, Obregon and Zuñiga will face each other once again in a continuing duel for supremacy. The Main Event 2 is expected to be more “entertaining” as the two musical gladiators battle it up backed up by years of experience in their fields.
Zuñiga , more mellowed and crispier in his style, will bank on his more than 20 years experience under his belt honed up by his gigs in the best night spots and concert venues in his native Philippines and in the U.S. and Asian countries.
Obregon, for his part, still pumped up by his love for his craft, promises a more mellowed performance buttressed by his spiritual orientation that has made him more appreciative of his God-given talent and which he now uses to glorify the Lord. His music reaches out to his audience in a more profound way to communicate his message.
The Evangelist/Pastor whose singing style have been influenced by the likes of musical heavyweights like Frank Sinatra, Johnny Mathis, Tony Bennette and Matt Monroe promises a surprise delightful repertoire for the weekend crowd who for years have remembered his renditions of “The Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me”, “How Can I Tell Her”, “Song Lucky”, and other favorites.
Zuñiga , on the other hand, also promises an unforgettable evening of music and fun with his own inimitable singing style which will take his fans to travel down memory lane with classics in the like of “Kumusta Ka?”, “Doon Lang”, and “Love Without Time”.
Main Event 2 in the U.S. will have a multi-talented performer Joseph Gelito referee the musical skirmish. Gelito also refereed the first encounter of the musical giants in the first edition of the Event in Buena Park.
The musical extravaganza will also feature Tanya Varona and Audrey Villaluz.
