MANILA – Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla on Monday said President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. already has his choice for the next chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
“Nag-usap na kami. May napupusuan na siya. Pero, hintayin na lang natin yung announcement niya (We’ve talked. He’s already made a choice. But let’s just wait for his announcement),” Remulla said in a press briefing at Camp Karingal, Quezon City.
Remulla said incumbent PNP chief Gen. Rommel Marbil’s successor is expected to be announced in the next two weeks.
“Excellent choice, very qualified, very dynamic, good track record. Okay siya (He’s okay),” Remulla described the next PNP chief.
President Marcos earlier extended Marbil’s term by four months from his mandatory retirement on Feb. 7 to help ensure stability during the 2025 midterm elections.
Marbil, 56, was appointed PNP chief on April 1, 2024.
Last week, Malacañang said President Marcos is in the process of selecting the next PNP chief.
Among those being considered for the post are PNP Deputy Chief for Administration Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., PNP chief directorial staff Lt. Gen. Edgar Allan Okubo, National Capital Region Police Office Director Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin, and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Director Maj. Gen. Nicolas Torre III. (PNA)
