ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula) destroyed PHP5.9 million worth of illegal drugs in Zamboanga del Sur through incineration on Thursday afternoon, an official said.

PDEA-9 director Bryan Babang, in a report Friday, said the destroyed drugs consisted of 852.59 grams of shabu, 28.8 grams of dried marijuana leaves and expired medicines.

“These confiscated items, stemming from cases already decided by various courts in Zamboanga del Sur and Tubod, Lanao del Norte, were permanently removed from circulation,” Babang said.

The illegal drugs were incinerated at the facility of Libertad Power and Energy Corporation in Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur.

“Every gram of these destroyed drugs is a life protected,” Babang added.

He noted that the destroyed illegal drugs were seized in a series of anti-drug operations within the area of operations of PDEA-Zamboanga Peninsula.

Thursday’s destruction of illegal drugs by PDEA-9 was the first for the year 2026. Officials from the police, Department of Justice, and other government agencies observed the event.

Last year, the PDEA-9 destroyed about PHP1.1 billion worth of dangerous drugs in this city, marking the largest drug destruction in the region. (PNA)
