Penthouse founder Bob Guccione died Wednesday of cancer at age 79. The controversial publisher was married four times and had five children.
The magazine’s most famous moment came when it published nude photos of Vanessa Williams, who was forced to give up her title as Miss America 1984 when the pictures were exposed. The issue sold nearly 6 million copies.
Guccione grew up in a Roman Catholic family in Brooklyn and considered the priesthood, spending several months at a Catholic seminary before dropping out.
