MANILA – The Philippines had a successful campaign at the Asian Junior/Sub-Junior Powerlifting Championships, winning 27 gold, 32 silver and six bronze medals, last Sunday in Dehradun, India.

Sabina Mae Santos collected eight gold medals after sweeping the Classic and Equipped categories in the women’s 76kg. division. She also set a new Asian Equipped Sub-Junior records in squat (190kgs) and total (445kgs).

Jessa Mae Vivero Tabuan bagged six gold medals in the Junior women’s 52kg category –four in Classic and two in Equipped division where she set an Asian record.

Rhadlee Marzan also had a remarkable performance in the Junior men’s 53kg category, winning four gold medals and setting an Asian record of 171.5kgs in squat.

In the Junior men’s 93kg category, Jason Galauran won two gold medals and registered new Asian Junior records in squat, both in Classic and Equipped divisions.

In the Junior women’s 57kg class, Jane Erasmo won the bench press gold medal in the Classic division. She set an Asian Junior record in the Equipped division.

Ashley Cruz won the Junior women’s 76kg category squat gold medal in the Classic division with a new Asian Junior record.

The other medalists were Alexei Agabon (Junior men’s 66kg), Angelo Galon (Junior men’s 74kg), Matthew Fischeder (Sub-Junior men’s 83kg) and Ross Teodosio (Junior men’s 120+kg) in the Classic division and Jian Carlos Medina (Sub-Junior men’s 83kg) in the Equipped division.

In the Asian Classic University Cup, Vince Gutierrez got three golds and one silver in the men’s 83kg category while Ken Austria won the bench press gold medal with a new Asian University record to go with three silvers in the men’s 105kg category.
