MANILA, July 2 (Mabuhay) –The Department of Health (DOH) on Thursday reported 5,795 new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases, bringing the total to 1,418,337,  as five laboratories failed to submit reports on time.

According to the DOH, the country’s active cases slightly rose to 51,567.

Of this, 91% are mild, 3.8% are asymptomatic, 2.1% are severe, and 1.5% are in critical condition.

The DOH also reported that total recoveries climbed to 1,341,973 after 2,859 more patients recovered. This is the lowest recoveries recorded since June 4.

Meanwhile, 135 new fatalities brought the death toll to 24,797.

Seventeen duplicate cases were also removed from the total case count.

“Moreover, 27 cases previously tagged as recoveries have been validated to be active cases, and 93 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” the DOH said.

Data from the DOH showed that 56% of the intensive care unit beds nationwide are in use while 35% of the mechanical ventilators are occupied.

In the National Capital Region, 44% of the ICU beds are being utilized by patients while 30% of the mechanical ventilators are in use.

The Health Department earlier said. that the Philippines has been classified as a low-risk area for COVID-19 after the national case growth rate and average daily attack rate decreased. (MNS)
