MANILA – The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Friday said it has rescued a student pilot whose Piper Tomahawk aircraft suddenly malfunctioned while in the air on Feb. 19.

The training aircraft, operated by Fliteline Aviation, was forced to make an emergency landing in an open field in Barangay Langlagan, Plaridel, Bulacan, the PNP said in a statement.

The PNP Air Unit, upon receiving a distress call from the aircraft, immediately responded, arriving at the site within minutes to assess the situation and ensure the safety of the two persons inside the aircraft — flight instructor Capt. Valentin Torres III and student pilot David Cabrera.

Both the instructor and the student were unharmed, the PNP said.

“This successful response reflects our commitment to the President’s vision of ‘Bagong Pilipinas’ — a government that works efficiently and proactively for the welfare of its people,” PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil said as he commended the unit’s professionalism and quick response.

“The bravery and quick action of our pilots embody the PNP’s duty to serve and protect, not just on the ground but even in the skies,” he said.

Marbil also echoed the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., who has consistently emphasized the importance of efficient law enforcement and public service.

“Under the leadership of our President, we continue to uphold the trust and confidence of the people by showcasing our dedication to duty. This incident serves as a testament to our readiness to act swiftly and professionally in any emergency situation,” he said.

After confirming the safety of the two persons on board the plane, the police coordinated with Plaridel Municipal Police Station and the Aviation Security Unit 3 to turn over the scene before resuming their flight mission. (PNA)
