MANILA, Aug 17 (Mabuhay) – The camp of Senator Grace Poe on Monday belied the accusations made by defeated senatorial candidate Rizalito David as mentioned in his electoral protest filed with the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
“There was no misrepresentation because Senator Grace Poe is a natural-born Filipino. We are confident that the Supreme Court will decide in our favor,” lawyer George Garcia, Poe’s counsel, said in a statement.
He accused David, who placed 50th among 61 candidates in 2013, of fishing for a forum to air his accusations.
“Masyado nilang inaapi si Senator Grace Poe. Ganyang-ganyan din ginawa nila sa tatay nya. Lubha nilang minamaliit ang talino at pang-unawa ng Pilipino,” Garcia said, referring to the questions raised against the late actor Fernando Poe Jr.’s citizenship when he ran for president in 2004.
Garcia also said David’s electoral protest is not an advocacy but a form of harassment and an insult. “Nakahanda kaming sumagot at pabulaanan ang mga kasinungalingang kanilang ibinabato,” he said.
In his complaint filed with the Comelec’s law department, David accused Poe of material misrepresentation, claiming that she is not a natural-born Filipino citizen, lacks residency requirement, and has questionable certificate of candidacy. (MNS)
