LAOAG CITY – About 250 grams of suspected shabu, estimated at PHP1.7 million, was confiscated from a real estate broker at a police checkpoint in Barangay 8, Capangdanan, Pinili, Ilocos Norte early Wednesday.

In a report on Thursday, the police identified the suspect as Juliet Leaño, 56, of Barangay Balvuena, Pinili town, who reportedly travelled from Metro Manila in a blue Hyundai i10 vehicle (ZSK 916).

It said the illegal drugs were placed in five transparent plastic sachets, and were seized following a tip received by the Provincial Police Drug Enforcement Unit (PPDEU)/Police Intelligence Unit (PIU).

The suspect, who is detained at the Pinili police station, will be charged with violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Acting provincial director Col. Frederick Obar cited the “diligence and dedication of our PNP personnel involved in this remarkable accomplishment.”

“This achievement underscores our commitment to ensuring the safety and security of our community. We will remain vigilant in our efforts to combat the proliferation of illegal drugs dahil dito sa Bagong Pilipinas ang gusto ng pulis ay ligtas ka (We will remain vigilant in our efforts to combat the proliferation of illegal drugs because under the New Philippines the police force wants you (the public) to be safe),” he said in a statement. (PNA)
