MANILA – The Department of Justice (DOJ) resumed Tuesday its preliminary investigation into the plunder charge involving former senator Bong Revilla in connection with anomalous flood control projects.

In a media interview, DOJ spokesperson Polo Martinez said the panel of prosecutors agreed to give four new respondents 10 days to submit their counter affidavits

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) earlier included four respondents in the Revilla plunder complaint — former Department of Public Works and Highway engineers Denril Cesar Espertuna, Manny Bulusan, Roel Omalia and Arturo Gonzales Jr.

The four attended the preliminary hearing with their counsel.

The prosecutors also ruled that after March 13, the original respondents in the case, including Revilla, will have 10 days to file a supplemental affidavit.

Martinez downplayed claims made by Revilla’s lawyer, questioning the belated addition of the four new respondents.

He explained that the motion to include the four was filed by the NBI, which will be substantiating their motion with evidence. (PNA)
